The LRC is open each lunchtime and after school on a Wednesday 3.20 – 4.20PM.
The LRC has a large collection of non-fiction books of various topics, many selected to support the curriculum areas in school and the set homework tasks. Pupils can also request specific books to support their learning.
We stock a wide range of fiction books to support pupils reading for pleasure as well as specific reading lessons linked to English and Literacy. Our collection caters for all tastes and abilities, including graphic novels, classics and short reads for reluctant readers. Pupils can request specific books for their own reading style. Pupils are allowed to borrow up to 4 books at any one time, for a period of 3 weeks, they can be renewed to extend their borrowing time if necessary.
Accelerated Reader Program
We use this program with specific groups of pupils from years 7 & 8. It is a computer-based program designed to increase reading comprehension. Pupils take the STAR Test – Standardized Test for the Assessment of Reading A pupil reads a book, takes an online quiz, and gets immediate feedback. Pupils respond to regular feedback and are motivated to make progress with their reading skills.
Keep Up Society Club
The club is principally a social club that focuses on debate, homework, careers, entertainment, key skills and tutorship. This is an opportunity to enrol pupils into a club that can develop their social, emotional and intellectual skills that will benefit them immensely, further a club that responds to your children’s needs and will be tailored to do so. The club runs every Wednesday from 3.30 - 4.20pm.
